Is it a functional vise or a curiosity? These Special Machine and Engineering vises were made out of die cast aluminum and were often private labeled by adding a round sticker over the SME letting at the front of the vise. Dating is tough as I have not found any catalogs, but believe they were made in the 1960’s into the 1970’s. The company did tool and die work and more than likely these vises were advertising pieces for their die work capabilities.The jaws are steel and given the small size, having the body made from diecast aluminum is not really a detriment.
