I have somehow forgotten about this bit of text I used to include on my Marketplace listings and thought I would share with you…
Why buy a used Made In USA vise?
If you look at prices for new “Made In America” vises from Wilton, Columbian and Yost, you will see why. A quality 4″ machinist vise from Wilton is $700-$900 new with 5″ – 6″ version being well north of $1,000. The Made in China vises have inferior castings and will break with heavy use. Some believe, as I do that the older castings made in USA are of better quality than even the new Made in USA vises. All this adds up to used vises being a good deal.
Some say I have a vise vice, and they would be correct. The look, feel and craftsmanship of vises made in the first half of the 20th century can’t be beat. All vises I sell have been thoroughly inspected for welds, cracks and inferior parts. I attempt to describe to the best of my ability the condition of the vise being offered.
It’s a great example of copy that sets the stage for buying a vintage vise. It lays out the benefits of the older vises and makes it clear the buyer is getting a valuable and useful tool for their shop. Plus is adds some SEO copy to help come up in search listing better.
